Life in Motion Photography – Cinemagraphs
Have you ever looked at a picture and wondered what it would be like to actually be there in the scene. Life is all about motion and dynamism. Stillness negates life. Unfortunately, that’s how pictures are – still. Still, a picture, they say, can speak approximately a thousand words. We’re going to introduce you to a type of picture that can speak, let’s say, at least, a hundred thousand words. That’s so because this image type is something midway between a picture and a video.
Moving pictures or motion photographs is not entirely a new phenomenon. But the life-likeness and originality that has characterized some recent motion photographs, which have been created through a new technique, has no parallel in the past. These motion images have been called ‘cinemagraphs‘.
A cinemagraph is basically a GIF image that supports animation and captures multiple moments in a time frame. The resulting image gives an impression of motion or movement. To create animated GIFs you need a good camera to capture images and make a movie. Another essential requirement is, of course, a good image editing software like Photoshop. And one more thing that you must have to create a moving GIF, is a whole lot of imagination and creativity.
It is an amazing feature of a cinemagraph that you can enhance a specific element in a picture by making it appear moving in a sea of other still objects. The moving element captures the attention of its viewer instantly. And so, a cinemagraph can be used to give a message in addition to just being a means of expression of creativity.
